2008 Rok Oxford Community Challenge
In July 2008 the school beat dozens of entries to win the 2008 Rok Oxford Community Challenge, open to all schools run by the Local Education Authority. Local builder Rok transformed their outdoor play facilities as part of the firm’s annual make-over competition. More information here.
Healthy Schools Award
In September 2007 Horspath was given the Healthy Schools Award. The purpose of this national initiative is to encourage schools to improve their provision in:
- PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education)
- The emotional well being of students and staff
Area Sports
In July 2007 Horspath took part in the Area Sports. We sent representatives from 3 years to compete against other primary schools in the area. This year we are delighted to announce that Horspath won the overall trophy. Congratulations must be given to everyone who took part for an excellent performance in a wide variety of athletic events.
School Sport Coordinator Programme (SSCO)
The SSCO Programme is a government initiative to raise standards in schools through the coordinated delivery of physical education and sport.
Horspath Primary has been part of the Wheatley School Sport Partnership (SSP) since September 2005. SSPs are families of schools that come together to enhance sports opportunities for all. Sports Colleges are at the hub of the partnerships and are given funding to employ a full-time Partnership Development Manager (PDM), who is responsible for the strategic development of the partnership and liaison with other agencies.
Around each Sports College there are secondary schools. Each has a SSCO who works closely with Primary Link Teachers (PLTs). Our PLT is Gayle Hunt. PLTs are responsible for the development and delivery of high quality PE and sport in their own school. Our recent application for the Activemark Gold award was successful in recognition of our high level of commitment to PE.
We have now put in place a 3 year development plan. Our aim is to further enhance PE and school sport provision, ensuring access to at least 2 hours high quality PE and school sport in and out of the curriculum a week. We hope to improve our pupils' motivation and attitude resulting in an increase in their achievement in all aspects of their school life.
